Recent university studies have shown that music education, especially keyboard performance will benefit any child with their everyday life skills and learning abilities at school. It is now known that a child’s involvement in music can have tangible long-term benefits in the study of math’s, spatial relations and language. Tiny Musicians Club is a program developed by our own teaching staff for kids aged between 2 and 4 years. Through varied activities in the class, even at this young age, they are learning the basics of music theory, vocalisation of familiar songs and discipline through music and movement. Different percussion instruments help to re-enforce the rhythm side of the program and gives the kids some fun. So how much do they learn at this age? Our clients are always amazed at the level of talent these kids show at our Christmas Concert – repetition and fun is where it all begins and Mum’s and Dad’s have great fun too!
Music for Little Mozarts is the next progression once the child has reached 4 years. This course has been specifically designed for kids aged 4 to 6 years by Alfred Publishing, and is a formal keyboard based course. Singing is still a large part of this course, both with words and Solfege, (Do Re Mi) this helps the student with the sense of pitch. Percussion and rhythm and movement play a large part in assisting a child’s sense of rhythm. They also learn to play the keyboard as an individual and in the group environment helping with developing discipline in the classroom. Reading and writing of music is also covered and by the end of the two year course the students are playing some great songs with both hands. The course follows the musical adventures of Beethoven Bear & Mozart Mouse giving the students a real sense of involvement in music!
Alfred Group Piano Course for Children is for students aged between 7 and 9 years. If your child is starting a little later in life this course progresses at a faster rate than the MLM Course. Many of the same areas are covered however as the kids are a little older less emphasis is placed on as much repetition and some of the musical games. Vocalisation of notes and songs are still applied to help with the training of the ear and some percussion work to aid timing. Keyboard repertoire is sensational and as with MLM the books are bright and colourful and all the songs are on CD to practice to at home or in the car. This course also has a duration of 2 years.
