Private tuition is offered for most instruments at the school six days a week, Monday through Saturday and caters for all ages. All our teaching staff are dedicated professionals who can teach contemporary methods or classical traditional methods depending on your students requirements. Many students want to enjoy their music and have fun and that is our emphasis here, whatever method you use. It is important that each student enjoys the learning experience. All students are taught to read music so that they have a solid understanding of what they are doing and achieving, no short cuts are taken in this area. It is important that everyone understand the musical content of a piece whether playing for fun or entering the exam arena. Learning to read music is not hard when it is taught in the right way, we get you playing straight away and teach you the necessary theory as you progress through your pieces. Once you have attained the basics of music theory the teachers will then supplement your set pieces with ones that YOU will enjoy and relate to…..we’re here to help you enjoy your experience!
Examinations:
Exams are offered through the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board). Even when you are working to achieve your exam goals your lessons will be supplemented with other materials to enhance your musical pleasure and enjoyment. We are very pleased to be an AMEB Examination centre and as such we hold three to four rounds of practical exams in piano here each year, and these numbers are growing. By having the exams within the school it allows our students to feel more relaxed and at home as they are in their normal environment, very important in the early stages when nerves play a big part. Outside teachers also enter their students for exams held at our centre, should you wish to take advantage of this please contact John to find out the scheduling for the current year.
Festivals and Concerts:
Festivals and Concerts play a big part in many child’s lives. We hold two events each year to give our students an avenue to stretch their performance skills. Our Festival held mid year is an adjudicated event. A critique is given to each performer so that they know the areas that they need to improve in or that they excel in. The end of each year sees our Christmas Concert over two or three days. This is a less formal event, but again students of all ages and instruments are encouraged to get up and have a go and show off their talents to their family and friends, and of course they all get to see Santa at the end!!
